A church is noted in the Domesday Book at ‘Notfelle’. The tower was built in about 1475 and has four main stages. The ringing chamber is on the first floor and the bell chamber occupies the top floor. In 1553 the crown seized most of the church goods, but the bells were allowed to remain "until the king's majesty's will be better known". Four bells were recorded as being in the church at the time. The present six bells are of various ages, the oldest two being the 5th and tenor which date back to 1662.
